A full room at the Fundamentals of Wire Manufacturing course at Interwire 2025

WAI’s most popular Fundamentals of Wire Manufacturing course provides a practical introduction to the materials, equipment, and processes used to make wire and cable. Learn from experienced industry instructors and develop the technical vocabulary to better understand your products and operations.

Held the day before the Interwire exposition opens, this concentrated course is a useful starting point for newcomers and a refresher for professionals looking beyond their own area of expertise.

What the course covers

The course combines general manufacturing principles in the morning with specialized ferrous and nonferrous instruction in the afternoon. Pick your track; it’s your call! Great speakers and conversations await in either the ferrous or nonferrous/electrical afternoon tracks! Interested in both areas? Feel free to float between the concurrent presentations. Course materials will be made available online and sent to registrants to download.

  • General topics include wiredrawing mechanics, drawing dies, lubrication, wire breaks and surface damage, and manufacturing problem-solving. The morning sessions focus on aspects of the wire manufacturing process that apply to both ferrous and nonferrous segments.
  • Ferrous topics include metallurgy, rod and wire cleaning and coating, testing and properties, and heat treatment. This track focuses on the general approach for iron and steel.
  • Nonferrous topics include stranding and cabling, extrusion, electrical testing, and marking and printing. This track focuses on the general approach for copper and aluminum.

Who should attend

New hires, engineers, production and operations personnel, sales and customer service teams, and managers who want a broader understanding of wire and cable manufacturing.

Plan your attendance

Fundamentals takes place pre-conference on Monday, May 3, before the May 4–6 Interwire Conference & Exposition. Plan your travel to arrive in time for the course. A plated lunch is provided, plus attendees can conclude the course with a networking social hour to mingle with other participants and ask the instructors questions.
